The Tesla Semi, the company’s electric truck, is expected to begin production by the end of 2025 after many delays.

The vehicle was first unveiled in 2017. At the time, Tesla’s truck attracted attention for its range and the possibility of a significant reduction in carbon emissions caused by traditional trucks.

Many expected the first deliveries to happen by 2022. However, production was postponed multiple times due to detected issues, including some related to its range.

Now, it seems the Tesla Semi will finally become a reality. According to a video posted by the company itself, it appears the obstacles have been overcome and the Giga Factory in Reno, Nevada (USA), is nearly ready to start production. The company intends to deliver up to 50,000 units per year starting in 2026.

Regarding its range, the initial promise was a capacity to cover about 804 km on a single charge, demonstrating an energy efficiency of 1.7 kWh per mile. However, early road tests showed the Semi had significantly less range in practice than expected.

This seems to have been partially corrected. According to the website Electrek, the truck achieved a result close to 1.55 kWh per mile in more recent tests, thanks to the battery pack delivering a capacity of 900 kWh, one of the largest on the market.

Besides fast charging, promising 70% in just 30 minutes, the Semi does not disappoint in power. With three electric motors installed on the rear axle, the truck will have 1,020 hp, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 20 seconds even with a load of up to 37 tons.

As for prices, when announced, the Semi ranged from US$ 150,000 for the version with up to 480 km of range to US$ 180,000 for the 800 km version. However, Tesla has not confirmed whether prices will change now that the company is entering mass production.
